Reformer Pilates

What is reformer pilates?

Reformer Pilates is performed using a bed-like frame, with a moving ‘carriage’ that rolls back and forth on wheels, using springs to generate resistance.  There is also a footbar and long straps, which can be used by the arms and legs.

 

The Reformer can be used in a majority of ways to benefit strength, flexibility and balance.  You push or pull the platform against the spring resistance and control the movement back.

 

Reformer Pilates is generally more intense and more dynamic than mat based Pilates.  With the combination of adjustable spring resistance and a sliding platform, the Reformer can create resistance or instability (or both) to make exercises easier or harder in a way that the mat cannot.  It is designed to increase flexibility, muscular strength and muscular endurance with an improved mind-body connection.  Visually, you will see stronger and leaner muscles with improved posture.

 

With the focus on core stability and total body strength, Reformer Pilates will help to facilitate muscle activation and development to support proper spinal alignment.  The versatility of the equipment means it can continue to challenge even the most experienced Pilates practictioners.

How long are the sessions?

All sessions are 50 minutes with a 10 minute break prior to the next session to allow for sanitizing of common surfaces.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing that allows for movement which is neither non-constricting or too loose. Your clothing doesn’t need to be skin tight, but it does help if it is more on the fitted side (helps your instructor see the way your body moves). Socks are required – yoga socks or grip socks are preferred.  Grip socks are available for purchase at reception for $19.95.

Will Reformer Pilates be suitable for me?

Regardless of your fitness level, previous Pilates experience or physical ability our professional & caring instructors will provide a welcoming environment and a safe powerful workout. However, as with any physical exercise, please do speak with your instructor about any pre-existing medical conditions before the start of each session.

If you are new to Reformer Pilates, start by attending a 20 MINUTE INTRO CLASS to become familiar with the Reformer bed and it’s moving parts.

How often should I do a Reformer class?

The ideal Pilates practice is 2-3 times per week. We suggest starting with 2 sessions and adding more sessions when you can. The more sessions you do per week, the quicker you will see results.

Jodie

With a background in dance, Jodie has had a life-long passion for movement and fitness and has worked in the fitness industry for more than 30 years. Jodie completed a degree in Exercise Science at The University of NSW and has since worked in many areas of the fitness industry. Jodie also studied at Polestar Pilates International, which is an internationally recognised training body organised by physiotherapists. She has worked as an educator at The Australian Institute of Fitness and as a personal trainer, working with the general population, sport specific and injury rehab.

 

After personal training for 15 years, Jodie made the switch to Pilates after being drawn to it not only by its physical benefits but also the ‘mind body’ aspects and how it makes participants feel. Participants leave Jodie’s classes feeling inspired, with an increase in energy, vitality, clarity & focus.

 

Here at Crunch, we feel very privileged to have Jodie onboard. We hope our members love Jodie’s classes and will reap the benefits of Jodie’s incredible teaching experience and knowledge of the human body and what it is capable of achieving.

I am passionate about all aspects of health and wellbeing.  Over the past 15 years, my journey has been working towards being a holistic trainer through education, dedication and desire.  The avenues of wellness that I incorporate into my programs include achieving not only physical fitness but a combination of mindset coaching and mindfulness.

 

I have always been inspired by the human form and movement.  Exercise not only changes your body, it changes your mind, your attitude and your mood! Exercise is something you get to do, rather than something you have to do. It’s important to enjoy your workouts.

Ashleigh is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist and Pilates Instructor with over 10 years experience. Ashleigh specialises in injury rehabilitation and fat loss. Prepare to work hard in her classes as they’re always an all over body workout.

What you will feel after Ashleigh’s classes are stronger, fitter and prouder of your body.

If you have private health insurance and are covered for Exercise Physiology,  you may be able to claim the classes you take with Ashleigh. Please see reception for an itemised receipt.

As a Group Fitness Instructor and Trainer at CRUNCH Female Fitness I train a lot of amazing women, all with diverse goals, mobility and strength considerations.

For some clients weight training is most suitable, for others it’s High Intensity but Reformer adds a whole other dimension, allowing us to blend the grace of mat Pilates with the gains of resistance training.

I have been working in the health and fitness Industry for over 25 years navigating my way through various roles from gym reception, sales, PR and Management.

 

I’ve always had a passion for body mechanics and overall wellbeing. 19 years ago, I became an accredited STOTT PILATES Instructor. I was constantly in pursuit for a deeper understanding to expand my knowledge and skill set to achieve better results from training programs for myself and clients.

 

After working closely in conjunction with physiotherapists and health care professionals I found Pilates to be a much more effective form of exercise which catered to all ages and fitness levels.  By incorporating a combination of strengthening and stretching techniques which helps the body develop stronger leaner muscles, increasing body awareness and improve overall body movement.

 

I enjoy creating fun, yet challenging workouts guiding clients with care and attention to achieve their personal fitness goals.  I am very much looking forward to working with the members & team at Crunch Female Fitness.

I am 22 years old and am currently studying a Masters of High Performance Sport and a Diploma of Nutrition.

 

I gained my Pilates certification from Barre Body and have recently been teaching in a studio that specialises in injury and rehab with a team of physios. I completed my undergrad degree with a Bachelors of Health Science majoring in Human Structure and Function, so I am very passionate about human movement, fitness and recovery.
